White Plains swears in 5 new police officers, including son of assistant chief

Five new police officers were sworn in at a ceremony at Public Safety Headquarters on Friday, and, by doing so, one of the quintet is now bound by regulation to always do what his mother says.

“I guess once my boss, always my boss,” recruit John FitzSimmons said of his mother, Assistant Police Chief Anne FitzSimmons, shortly after taking the police oath. “In my family there’s a legacy, a history of service to this city, and I’m glad I have the opportunity to continue that.”

The 23-year-old’s grandfather, William McMahon, was the White Plains fire chief for many years, and his father, John FitzSimmons, once worked as an investigator for the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
