New K9, Alaska, joins Marysville police

She’ll have big paws to fill one day.

But for now, Alaska, the canine half of the Marysville Police Department’s new K9 team, is training alongside successful K9 veterans and getting to know her new handler and partner, Officer Cory Engelbrektson.

The 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, recently acquired from a breeder and trainer in the Czech Republic, only weighs 60 pounds. But once fully trained, she will pack quite a punch for the police force, said Chief Wally Fullerton
