Deputy’s idea is now a potential lifesaver for SWAT teams

Shortly after Deputy Jeremy Eckdahl became a member of the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team several years ago, he came to a conclusion about the unit.

“I thought, ‘There has to be a better way,’ and so I started brainstorming,” Eckdahl said. “And I started working on something in my barn with some of my neighbors.”

The “better way” that Eckdahl was looking for has become The Rook, a device powered by an 85-horsepower engine that was demonstrated in Gainesville Wednesday morning during a SWAT training session.
