Pasco sheriff’s office, New Port Richey police merge SWAT teams

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and New Port Richey Police Department have combined their SWAT teams.

The consolidation will give the agencies wider coverage and eventually result in savings for taxpayers, Sheriff Chris Nocco said, although he couldn’t give an amount.

The merger creates a 55-operator SWAT team instead of the prior arrangement, in which the sheriff’s office team had about 30 operators and New Port Richey’s had 12.

“This is a new model in law enforcement and something you very rarely see out there,” said Nocco, who unveiled the initiative at a press conference today with New Port Richey Police Chief Jeffrey Harrington.
