Keep your hands on the steering wheel until the timer starts, then move.
Eight Fort Walton Beach police officer candidates suffered the sweltering heat Friday morning with one mission: to beat the clock and make it through the obstacle course.
“They need to be able to do this if they’re in the field,” said Fort Walton Beach Sgt. Bill Royal, who administered the test at Fred Hedrick Recreation Center on Jet Drive. “We’re looking into doing this year-round for our police officers on the force.”
The obstacle course is among the requirements candidates must meet before they are considered for the force.
On Friday each candidate sat in a squad car and then grabbed their MagLite flashlight and ran as the clock began to count down.
