Marathon County’s SWAT vehicle rumbles into town

Marathon County’s SWAT team now can take refuge inside 10 tons of bulletproof steel and glass when emergencies happen.

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday unveiled to the public its new armored vehicle at the Duane L. Corbin Shooting Range near Mosinee. The department bought the $289,000 vehicle in late June and already used it last week when police responded to a gun threat on Third Street in Wausau.

“If it was me that needed rescue, I would want that thing — with these guys in it,” said Steve Denovi, one of 20 Marathon County SWAT team members.
