Jersey City Police Department honors officers for outstanding work at annual awards ceremony

Jersey City police K9 Froto gave the longest and loudest speech at the Police Department’s Annual Awards Ceremony at City Hall yesterday when his partner, Officer Louis Mecka, received a top honor.

“It feels great,” said Mecka, who was among 12 officers receiving the highest award bestowed this year, the Combat Cross. Mecka was presented the award by Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, Police Director Sam Jefferson and Police Chief Tom Comey.

Froto barked nearly the entire time as Mecka received his award before a standing-room-only crowd of elected officials, fellow officers, and friends and family members of award recipients. After posing with officials, Mecka quickly marched the barking dog out of the council chambers.
