Santa Maria police Cpl. Robert Prescott is honored to be receiving the H. Thomas Guerry Award for Valor for entering a fire-engulfed home to rescue a 5-year-old boy.
But he contends that any of the department’s officers would have done the same selfless deed.
Prescott was presented with the award at a ceremony Wednesday afternoon at the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisor’s Hearing Room in Santa Barbara.
In addition, 12 law enforcement officers from throughout the county received the Superior Peformance Award at the 42nd annual H. Thomas Guerry Awards, which is named for a Santa Barbara police officer who died in the line of duty in 1970.
