FOR A police officer, there’s no such thing as a routine call or a humdrum patrol.
When your job is protecting the public from troublemakers, trouble often finds you.
Such was the case shortly after noon Thursday in west Savannah. That’s when Metro Police Officer Michael Broome was shot in the chest during a struggle with what sources say was an apparent burglary suspect.
Fortunately, Officer Broome survived the wound and was released from the hospital Thursday night. We wish him a speedy recovery from his injuries, which include a quarter-inch hole from the bullet and a slash wound on his arm, which the suspect allegedly inflicted with a knife.
We also thank him – and all police officers in our area – for their service.
Too often, citizens take for granted the work that officers do.
