Royal Oak police unit plans trip to national vigil

The police department’s honor guard is in fundraising mode to send its nine members to Washington, D.C., to pay tribute to fallen officers at the Law Enforcement Memorial Wall.

Police agencies from across the country send representatives to an annual candlelight vigil, which this year was held on Friday.

“It’s the police way of showing sympathy,” said Sgt. Al Carter, a Royal Oak detective.
