Area law enforcement officials engaged their K-9 partners in training on the Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum Monday — an opportunity to challenge the dogs and familiarize them with on-ship searches.
Officials with the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office, Cheboygan County Sheriff Department and U.S. Forest Service participated in the training on the ship Monday morning.
“All four of our dogs are trained for this, which we call apprehension training,” said Emmet County Sheriff’s Office deputy Rob Poumade. “We have to train monthly. We, as a group, try to get together every month.”
