Middletown PD gets three new K-9 containment units

The police department has updated its equipment for its three K-9 units, using a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The grant money was used for to install containment systems in the department’s three K-9 cruisers.

The containment systems are designed to keep the dogs safe, providing a barrier for the dog and the officer in case of an accident, Lt. Heather Desmond said. In addition, she said, the unit has a temperature control system, with an alarm that lets the officer know if the car gets too hot.
