Explosive-sniffing MTA Police K-9 unit finds a new home in Pikesville area

It’s a dog’s life, and a pretty good one, at that — at least for the handful of dogs recruited by the Maryland Transit Authority Police Force’s K-9 unit.

“We definitely love our dogs,” said Officer Melvin Harris, 40, a 14-year veteran of the Maryland Transit Authority Police Force.

He’s in his fourth year with the K-9 unit, where he works with Aja, the 3-year-old Belgian Malinois.

“When we go to work I let Aja know it’s all about her,” added Harris, who lives in the Gwynn Oak area of Baltimore. “I’ll take her out in the field and just give her all the attention in the world.
