New deputy dogs join Harris County Sheriff’s Office

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has added four new deputies – who are highly trained in drug detection in addition to being cute and cuddly – to the team.

The K-9 deputies — Boomer, Fozzie, Mikey and Tamara – will soon take to the streets aiding police officers in discovering contraband, explosives, missing individuals and offenders.

“We generalize odors but they categorize odors. We may smell spaghetti but they’ll smell the Ragu and the beef,” Sgt. William Thomas with the HCSO K-9 Unit said. “And they tend to break down odors.
