Maitland pays tribute to police dogs in K9 cemetery

Alix, a retired K9 who died on Valentine’s Day after a decade with the Maitland Police Department, had a knack for wrenching car doors open with his teeth. He would bite down on the handle, and a few times the black and tan German shepherd came away holding it in his mouth, like a bone.

His owner, Sgt. Chris Ohalek, said Alix gained a reputation. When the two showed up at a crime scene, other officers would say, “Oh, cool. That’s the dog that opens car doors.”
