K-9 officers and their dogs sniff out drugs

BOB GWALTNEY / Courier & Press Axel, K-9 partner of Evansville police officer Zach Elfreich, finds 35 grams of meth hidden in a semitrailer Tuesday during training. Eighteen K-9 teams from 10 departments participated in drug discovery workshop.

Area police officers and their K-9 partners got to practice their skills and learn new ones during two days of intensive narcotics training Monday and Tuesday at Evansville.

The Evansville Police Department, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and other Tri-State law enforcement agencies participated in the training funded by the EPD Foundation and presented by Mark Robertson and Tim Hawn of Positive Response Canines from Tennessee.

The trainers travel all over the nation to assist law agencies.
