On Saturday, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police recognized its members who excelled in the past year. More than a dozen officers were recognized at the annual banquet, as were two Valparaiso residents who contributed to the K-9 program.
“It is the essence of this gathering to recognize the hard work of officers that are out there every day,” Sheriff David Lain said. “We take thing for granted, and we shouldn’t.”
Erik Wiseman, Gary Gear, Gene Hopkins, Jim Gaskill, Jeff Biggs and detective Eric Jones were commended for their work on the October holdups of convenience and smoke shop stores in Lake and Porter counties.
Capt. Larry Sheets and Officer William Knapp were commended for an Aug. 10 arrest in South Haven where a resident was firing a handgun.
