The UMass Police Department’s K9 Unit made a special trip to Lakeville recently where Officer Liana Varosky and K-9 Diezel planned to see Santa, the Grinch, and a very generous donor to the K-9 Unit.

Richard Scully of Taunton was in attendance at the “Helping Paws for the Holidays” event held by the non-profit group Vested Interest in K9s Inc. at the Pet Food Shoppe on Route 44.

Scully and his wife Desiree made a sizeable cash donation to help provide K-9 Diezel with a bullet- and stab-resistant protective vest.

Diezel posed for photographs wearing his new vest.

Varosky said the vest is a necessary addition to the equipment used in the K-9 Unit.
