A Tulsa Police officer was honored by the National Native American Law Enforcement Association with its Award for Valor.
Officer Jim Whiteshirt, a 31-year veteran of the department, was presented with the national award Thursday morning.
A news release says the award is based on Whiteshirt’s heroic action on April 28, 2009. Whiteshirt along with several other officers responded to a shooting call and found the victim lying on the front porch.
Because a suspect was still inside the home at the time, Whiteshirt and two other officers pulled the victim out of harm’s way so medical crews could save his life.
