An Allentown police dog died today, a news release from the city says.
Falko, a 9-year-old K-9, worked with officer Leif Henry, the release says.
Falko and Henry were partners for seven years, the news release says. The dog was certified in narcotics detection and patrol work after training at Von der Haus Gill Police K-9 Academy in Ohio, and assisted with more than 20 felony arrests and hundreds of drug discoveries during his career.
Falko had liver cancer, which was discovered after an Oct. 27 emergency surgery for a ruptured spleen that caused severe hemorrhaging, the news release says. He started chemotherapy treatment and returned to duty one week after the surgery.
