It’s been said for years that a dog is man’s best friend.
That bond could, perhaps, be stronger when the dog is a police officer and the relationship is between the dog and its police officer/handler. Cherokee County is home to at least three such partnerships with two of them being with the Tahlequah Police Department and the third being with the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service.
Despite the imposing appearance of these K-9 officers, they’re friendly and like to be petted, unless they’re in the middle of working on a case. Tedy, Duke and Runa have been involved in many cases since becoming part of the local law enforcement team.
