Two police officers jumped into action to pull 23-year-old Lizbeth Perez out of the water on 86th Street near Township Line Road Wednesday. Perez gave Officer Chris Wuensch and Stephen Jones a brief, but well-deserved hug during Thursday’s roll call to personally thank them for rescuing her.
Perez thanked the officers, saying in Spanish, “because of you, my daughter still has someone to care for her.”
She told Eyewitness News she had driven past the retention pond many times, but this was the first time she had driven in the snow. When the SUV hit the water, she started to panic, which you can clearly hear in her 911 call.
“I have accident. I go in the water. My car’s in the water,” Perez told the dispatcher. “Help me, please.”
