4 Pennsylvania troopers receive highest state police honor
(AP) The Pennsylvania State Police have bestowed the department’s highest honor on a trooper who responded to the fatal shooting of a fellow trooper last year.
Trooper Jason Whitman was awarded the State Police Medal of Honor Friday at a ceremony at the State Police Academy in Hershey.
Whitman returned fire, radioed for help and provided first aid to Trooper Paul Richey after he was shot in the neck in Venango County in January 2010.
Three other troopers received the Medal of Honor, including two who entered raging flood waters in an attempt to save a man from his submerged vehicle in March.
Trooper Raymond Judge, based in Bethlehem, was named 2010 Trooper of the Year for his work on four major homicide cases.
