Road renamed to honor slain police officer

The stretch of roadway near Athens-Ben Epps Airport that leads to the Georgia Public Safety Training Center now serves as a constant reminder of police officers’ dedication to their calling and the sacrifices they make.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers, elected officials and family members of Athens-Clarke Senior Police Officer Elmer “Buddy” Christian gathered Monday in a field along the road formerly known as Beaverdam Extension to rename it Buddy Christian Way.
