Nick Henderson of the Evansville Police Department said working with the K-9 Unit is the best job in the force.
The Evansville K-9 Unit participated in the Evansville Region Canine Certification and Field Trials last month and did very well, Henderson said. At the trials, the dogs were tested on obedience, search work, agility and their ability to properly apprehend.
Jason Thomas and his canine, Bobi, finished first place overall out of the 35 individual teams competing. Zach Elfreich and K-9 Axel finished a close second to Thomas. Two other officers and K-9s took 5th and 7th place.
Kudos to all those involved in law enforcement. I have so much respect for the ones who serve our community. With that being said, I got a chance to shadow a trooper for a day.
I’ve always wanted to go on a police “ride-along” and now I can cross that off my bucket list!
Thanks to Trooper Joshua Reeber from the Ypsilanti post. He offered me a chance to do a full 12-hour shift on Friday July 8th, from 6 pm to 6 am. Although I worked my crazy hours all week and only took a three hour nap, I would not have missed this chance!
