K9 Officer Assists in Drug Bust

Two men were arrested last week in Wise after a Roanoke police drug dog sniffed out $16,000 worth of marijuana in a package disguised as a shipment of potato chips.

The six empty potato chip bags had been stuffed with weed and packed in the box, bound for Wise, said Wise Police Chief Tony Bates.

The box was discovered in Roanoke on June 15 after the Wise postmaster alerted postal inspectors to a series of suspicious packages that had been picked up by students from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise between January and April, according to a search warrant filed in U.S. District Court.
