Pancakes, anyone?

The only thing more satisfying than a hearty pancake breakfast is knowing that the money you spent on the meal is going to a good cause. Surely, that was the sentiment felt by those who attended the pancake breakfast at St. David’s Anglican Church in Venetia on Saturday morning. Scores of supporters left the event with full bellies and full hearts, knowing that their money went to a great cause—the James Kuzak Benefit Fund.

Columbus Police Officer of the Month: K-9 team of Valdes and dog earn honor

A Columbus police officer and his drug dog, a yellow Labrador retriever, strike fear into anyone possessing illegal drugs in the area.

The K-9 team of officer Josued Valdes and his dog earned Officer of the Month honors for April at the Columbus Police Department.

“I didn’t expect it,” Valdes said of the honor. “Everything we did is under the radar. I was very pleased.”

Fallen comrades honored at law enforcement ceremony

The annual New Hampshire Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony is always bittersweet for Frances Charron, whose son, Epsom Police Officer Jeremy Charron was shot to death Aug. 24, 1997, when he sought to check out a car where two men were sleeping.

This diamond is still forever — thanks to cops

Trapped in her smashed, overturned SUV on Thursday, Robin Guillen looked with disbelief at her broken left hand. Then, in shock and pain, she realized something: Her diamond engagement ring was gone.

“My ring! Call my husband! My ring!” she called out as the emergency workers tore the roof off her crumpled Dodge Nitro and rushed her to the hospital.

Robin and Will Guillen were engaged for seven years before he bought the ring, which he found after secretly researching diamonds so he would know what to buy.
