GJPD K9 Honored As Red Cross Hero
The Grand Junction Police Department has three K-9 teams. The dogs are trained to search for drugs, or suspects and keep their handler and other officers safe. But, that service does put the dogs in harm’s way.
One of the dog’s bravery and love for the job have earned him a nomination for this year’s Red Cross Hero awards.
Grand Junction K-9 officer Oldo was nominated by Sheridan O’Leary. She is a Police Service Technician at the GJPD and regularly watches and helps out with the department’s K-9 trainings. She’s gotten to know Oldo and his handler, Officer Geraldine Earthman as well as the other K-9 teams.
“They really love what they do. They have a lot of heart in it. Oldo shows that with everything that he does,” O’Leary explains.
