Injured NYPD cop Carlos Olmedo, who was struck by motorcycle during chase, is welcomed home
For 11 horrible days, Brooklyn cop Carlos Olmedo lay near death in a coma, his brain severely injured when he was struck by a motorcycle while sprinting after suspected car thieves.
When he regained consciousness, he faced a long and uncertain recovery – but prayed for a miracle.
Thursday, more than two months after the terrible accident, the resilient 31-year-old triumphantly returned to his Brooklyn stationhouse, showing his comrades his prayers were answered.
“I’m great. I spent 2-1/2 months in the hospital. It was great coming home,” Olmedo told the Daily News after his hero’s welcome. His emotions did not overshadow his faith. “I thank God,” he added.
