Durant PD adds 3 new units to fleet

Durant police officers will be riding in safety and style, thanks to the addition of three new Chevrolet Tahoes to their patrol fleet.

Two of the new Tahoes will be used for canine officers, and one will be used for patrol. New electronics systems installed will help protect the dogs while they are alone in the vehicle.

Officers say they’re excited to have the new units.

“They’re a step up from what we’ve had…they’re a police pkg so that means they’re sustainable for the work that we do, more room for dogs and dog equipment, and the dog itself,” Sgt. Jesse Petty, Durant Police K-9 Division, says.

The new police Tahoes were on display for the city council today. City council approved funds from the budget to buy the units. Durant PD has been using them for about two weeks.
