It’s being called the ultimate grudge match, but it may tough to tell who has the bigger grudge. Fists will be flying in Reading for the Cops vs. Cons event Saturday at the Sovereign Center. Cops from all over the region and the country will go blow for blow with ex-cons who’ve defied the law.
REPORTER: 29-year-old Gabriel Greenberg is used to fighting … in fact he’s been locked up several times for felony assaults … and just served a year sentence in a Minnesota prison.
GABRIEL: I was definitely a trouble maker when I was growing up when I was a kid.
REPORTER: This 150 pound featherweight is now a professional mixed martial arts fighter and will be fighting in the Cops vs. Cons cage-fighting event, held at the Sovereign Center tomorrow.
GABRIEL: I want to get out some aggression I had felt previously growing up as a kid. Maybe that will set back a chapter in my life and move on and focus on the more positive things in life.
REPORTER: Gabriel will face off against 33- year-old California federal agent, Johnny Torres. Torres is also a professional fighter of 11 years and says he looks forward to “duking” it out with Gabriel.
JOHNNY: I just see him as an opponent. I want to win, impose my will and get the win and leave, I don´t want to, I don´t have any animosity toward him or any bad feelings it´s just another opponent.
REPORTER: Off course the trainers for both fighters are already making predictions.
PABLO RENTENRÍA: We don’t come all the way from Calexico California para ser losers, you know? We’re coming to win.
CUB SWANSON: We’ll obviously I’m going to be biased and say Gabriel is going to win.
STAND UP: Now during this mixed martial arts matches these fighters have to be prepared for all styles of fighting from everything from jujitzu all the way to karate.
REPORTER: The promoters say the sport of Cage fighting just became legal in Pennsylvania this past February. So for tomorrow’s match in Reading, while no one knows if Gabe or Johnny will win — many are already calling this the ultimate grudge match.
