Three SWAT Officers Receive Commendations

GALLATIN, Tenn. – Three SWAT officers involved in a deadly standoff and shootout in Gallatin received commendations for their actions.

Police Chief John Tisdale honored Gallatin officers Bill Sorrells and Eben Bates, along with Sumner deputy JD Thomas.

Last week, police said Herbert Hipsher shot at his daughter, then barricaded himself inside his apartment. After negotiations failed, SWAT teams burst in and Hipsher started shooting at them. Officers fired back.

The 79-year-old suspect was shot in the jaw. He died Tuesday.
