A Lafayette Police officer was at the right place at the right time to help a mother whose 3-year-old toddler was struck by a vehicle and wedged beneath the vehicle.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Tuesday on Doiron Drive. Officer Ryan Richard arrived first on the scene and called for assistance from other officers.

Richard, and Action Unit officers Curtis Oakes and Shannon Brasseaux were able to lift the vehicle for the mother to free the child.

The child received “moderate” injuries and was transported to a local hospital, according to the police release on the incident.

According to the release, the mother was holding the toddler’s hand and the child broke free and was struck by the vehicle.

The incident is under investigation.
