Talks between Broward Sheriff’s Office and union deadlock

The Broward Sheriff’s Office and the union representing its deputies are at an impasse in figuring out a three-year contract.

After months of negotiations, the Police Benevolent Association and the Sheriff’s Office couldn’t agree on cost-of-living increases, promotions and retirement benefits. At stake: millions of taxpayer dollars and the relationship between 1,450 deputies and Sheriff Al Lamberti, who is campaigning for election in a crowded field of candidates.
